Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl tips and tricks guide
The fourth generation of Pokémon games is back, as Shiny Diamond Pokémon and Shiny pearl are now available on Nintendo Switch. While some may take a nostalgic trip to the Sinnoh region, this may be the first time you experience these fantastic games. With that in mind, you may need some help on your adventure, and luckily for you, the fourth generation just happens to be my favorite. This guide will give you some tips and tricks to prepare for your Sinnoh adventure in Pokemon Brilliant diamond and Shiny pearl.
1. Hold R to close your Pokétch.
At the start of your adventure, a man from Jubliffe City will give you the Pokétch, a kind of watch that contains useful apps. To use this feature, just press the R button, but the game doesn’t really tell you how to close it. At first it took me a while to figure out how to stop it which got annoying as it blocks the top right corner of the screen. However, holding down the R button will close the Pokétch, allowing you to review everything properly. It’s also worth mentioning that you should talk to all NPCs, as sometimes you will receive a new app for your Pokétch. We’ll be going over Pokech and its apps in a separate guide, so stay tuned for that.
2. Collect and plant berries.
Throughout the Sinnoh region, you will notice a variety of plants that contain berries. Collect them when you see them, because then you can plant a berry to receive even more. There are a lot of Pokémon scattered around the game that can cause status effects, so having a ton of berries on hand will come in handy. You can start finding berries when you reach Floaroma Town, and you can grab the watering can to use from the Berry Shop above the Pokémon Center. In addition, you can exchange berries in the shop to receive more stickers for the Ball Capsules / Capsule Decoration function. This is one of the simplest Pokemon Brilliant diamond and Shiny pearl tips and tricks, but still worth saying.
3. Choke the trees with honey to find rare Pokémon.
Again in Floaroma Town, you unlock the ability to cover the trees in the game with honey. You’ll want to stock up on honey, as covering the trees with it will allow you to find rare Pokémon. There are 21 Honey Trees in the game, which will give you the chance to receive Pokémon such as Aipom, Cherubi, Heracross, and, if you’re lucky, Munchlax. After covering your victim with honey, you need to wait six hours, and if successful, the tree will begin to shake slightly.
Another of our important Pokemon Brilliant diamond and Shiny pearl tips and tricks: You cannot tamper with the clock on the Nintendo Switch, so don’t try to tamper with this feature, as you will be banned from in-game events for 24 hours. Additionally, not checking a tree within 24 hours will void it, removing the possibility of finding a Pokemon and losing your well-earned honey.
4. Take advantage of the Grand Souterrain.
Before the second Gym, you can receive the Underground Man Explorer Kit. To do this, simply enter the house next to the Pokémon Center in Eterna City and talk to the old man. This will then allow you to enter the Grand Underground for the first time, a series of tunnels that will allow you to obtain rare items such as fossils, as well as capture rare Pokémon in a new feature exclusive to Shiny diamond and shiny pearl called hiding places. For example, on my first visit I was able to capture Swablu while exploring the Fountainspring Cave Refuge. We will have a complete guide to the Grand Underground available in the near future.
5. Talk to each NPC.
The Pokemon the series is known to hide objects behind specific NPC interactions, and Shiny Diamond Pokémon and Shiny pearl are no exception. As you explore the game’s many cities and routes, be sure to check each house for potentially useful items, such as TMs and owned items. Additionally, it is imperative that you pick up all the items strewn around the overworld, as you might find something particularly useful.
