Maison Perrier-Jouët and the Austrian design studio mischer’traxler have renewed a collaboration started in 2014 to continue their exploration of the relationship between man and nature. “The collaboration with mischer’traxler allows the House to project itself into a vision of a sustainable future. It introduces an emotional and significant dimension that goes well beyond champagne ”, comments Axelle de Buffévent, Style Director of Maison Perrier-Jouët.

Embodied nature by mischer’traxler: an individual experience with a collective reality

With their interactive installation Embodied nature, presented at Design Miami / 2021, mischer’traxler invites us to consider all species, including humanity, as part of a whole, and to reflect on the importance of understanding this interdependence.

More than 100 artistic representations of species from around the world are suspended in space and displayed in a cabinet of curiosities that teaches more about them and the relationships between them.

To mischer’traxler, biodiversity begins with what we see – plants, flowers, birds – then, at ground level, all the smaller species, and finally the microbes and bacteria of the subsoil, invisible to the ground. naked eye. It was important to represent all species at the same scale, with particular attention to those that are almost invisible, in order to emphasize the equality of their roles in the ecosystem.

The species are also displayed on shelves surrounding Nature embodied. The shelves appear to dissolve towards the center of the wall, creating the illusion that cash is floating freely in their displays. When visitors approach, they see themselves on the wall as if they were looking at a mirror. However, instead of their reflection, they see a picture of nature in all its diversity. The silhouette is made up of various species, which evokes a cognitive self-awareness that each of us is a part of nature.

Incarnate nature is therefore an individual experience with a collective reality

Embodied nature is above all a creative work and an emotional experience. “This emotional dimension is essential in our eyes. It is what captures the viewer’s attention, makes them more receptive to the educational and philosophical message of the work,” they explain. They add: “We are designers, not scientists. It is therefore important to remember that Embodied nature is a work of art, the result of a creative interpretation. This gives us, for example, the freedom to represent species side by side that would never be part of the same ecosystem in the real world. “

As always in the work of mischer’traxler, Embodied nature is created using both traditional techniques – like small, colorful, hand-made wire mesh sculptures – and contemporary technologies – like laser cutting, tracking software, and real-time animation.

I am nature: an attentive look at the heart of Perrier-Jouët actions for the years to come

Because art elicits an emotional response that can trigger deeper understanding and awareness, the creative collaboration with mischer’traxler helps Maison Perrier-Jouët engage with a wider audience. Man, one living being among others: this message of equality breaks down barriers to redefine the relationship between man and nature. This is the point of view of Maison Perrier-Jouët, and the basis of its commitment for the years to come.

Cultivating the feeling of belonging to nature, having a positive impact on the ecosystem and implementing know-how inspired by the living world, these priorities are at the heart of the Maison’s thinking and action. After promoting sustainable viticulture in recent years, Maison Perrier-Jouët initiated an experimental regenerative viticulture program last year in order to effect a real transformation of its vineyard. These initiatives represent Maison Perrier-Jouët’s contribution to the future of the planet. A necessity, an emergency, a responsibility. Séverine Frerson, Cellar Master Perrier-Jouët, explains: “We are guided above all by respect for the ecosystem to which we belong. We do our best to limit the influence that our activities may have on him as much as possible.

Extend the experience outside of Design Miami /

Maison Perrier-Jouët takes advantage of Design Miami / to present the limited editions created by mischer’traxler for the Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2013 and Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé 2013 vintages. For these two gift boxes, the designers bring a positive outlook and attentive to the terroir of Maison Perrier-Jouët and its most essential quality: its biodiversity. Their delicate watercolors highlight the complex mutual interdependencies that exist between living organisms, more or less visible, and the elements that make up the wine ecosystem. mischer’traxler illustrate the role that each element plays in this fragile balance, which Maison Perrier-Jouët is committed to preserving, because it envisions an eco-responsible future for its vines and wines. It is in this relationship of symbiosis with nature that the House has evolved since its inception.

Along with the Design Miami / exhibition, Maison Perrier-Jouët offers a digital experience on a dedicated website and on social networks. Everyone is invited to create their own portrait using elements of nature drawn by mischer’traxler to Embodied nature and share it on social media (#IAmNature).

The artistic vision of mischer’traxler – the interactions between man and nature – is part of the mission to breathe new life into Maison Perrier-Jouët. Driven by the freedom of creation and inspired by nature for more than 200 years, the Maison cultivates a joyful and positive vision of the world that aspires to shape a better future for all.

About Maison Perrier-Jouët

Maison Perrier-Jouët was born in 1811 from the common love of a couple for nature and a passion for art.
