Lake County Music Guide – 7.14.22 – The Bloom
OK folks, I’m recharged, rested and can’t wait to get going! And just in time too. What a week do you all have in store for musical events… It’s also the week commemorating July 14th, “La Quatorze Juillet”, which started the French Revolution in 1789. Of course, it wasn’t a perfect event – the intention was for the revolutionaries to storm the Bastille prison and free all the political prisoners imprisoned in the establishment, but there would actually only be 7 prisoners at the time: 4 forgers, 2 mentally ill and a count placed there by his own family for having committed certain unmentionable sexual perversions. Long live the revolution ! I’m sorry, the French take this day seriously… So, as we all gather to sing “La Marseillaise”, here is the guide to live music for the week of 14/07 to 20/07…
Andre’s Lounge in Lakeport will host a Bastille Day Party Thursday night with music performed by David Neft from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. French period costumes are encouraged and there will be snacks and refreshments available – however, they will not serve cake…
Thursday nights at the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville, with an excellent menu and full bar, the LC Diamonds will entertain diners and dancers from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For their Sunday brunch you will find beautiful jazz music performed by Tom Aiken and his Rural Jazz Collective from 11am to 1:30am. A great meal + great music = a great way to start your great Sunday. Reservations are strongly recommended for both shows.
The Catfish Coffee House in Clearlake and Chris Grant will host another Open Mic at 7:00 a.m. It’s about as laid back as an event one can attend, and yet the level of musicality is sure to surprise you. Come have fun.
Adams Springs Golf Course in the Cobb area will provide an evening of musical excellence (boy, do I use that word “excellent” often. Can anyone suggest another superlative?), Thursday, with the very talented Kim Thomas teaming up with local vocal master, Anthony Neves from 7am to 9am. Enjoy a meal, a cocktail, then gather around the grand piano for some really good music – how come?!?…
The Robinson Rancheria Lounge in Nice will offer music by Kirk Matthew on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Then on Saturday night, come dance and party with the Neon Playboys from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.
The Twin Pine Casino in Middletown will host Friday and Saturday nights, by popular demand, the Sons of Rock ‘n’ Roll from 9am to 1am.
The Mark Weston Band will rock The Spot in Clearlake on Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. Good to see The Spot back in action.
The Lakeport Summer Concert Series at Lakeport’s Library Park continues Friday with country music recording artist McKayla Marie starting at 6:30 a.m. I read her biography – she has an interesting background and her songs are very well crafted. I think you will like it. Always a good idea to bring a chair or blanket, hat, picnic and bevs, then arrive early enough to get the best spots on the lawn in front of the gazebo. WOW!
Richmond Park in the lower Riviera will have Friday night comedy featuring the Jokers and Jesters Comedy Tour starting at 8:00 p.m. A bunch of yuck for the price of admission – “ZERO” – tell me someone who doesn’t need a little laughter in their life? Sunday afternoon, Tommy Rox will rock the quays from 2 p.m. There’s no doubt about it – T.Rox is a true Lake County diamond…
On Saturday mornings, head to the Shannon Ridge Mercantile on Hwy 29 in Finley for the Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Stock up on locally grown fruits and vegetables, plants, flowers, wonderful handicrafts you can’t live without, and an assortment of oils, essences, balsamics, hummus and spices. other edibles and scented products – even beard oil! Live music will be presented by Bill Vanderwall.
Konocti Vista Casino will host Saturday will present a Reggae extravaganza featuring Prezident Brown, Iriefuse, Coast Tribe and Norcal Street Team starting at 5:00 a.m. The show is free, snacks, food and drinks will be provided.
Hidden Valley Lake will present the concert on the grounds on Saturday nights from 5-8:30 p.m. with local country music sensations Breaker One-9. Located at the baseball field on Hartman Rd, there will be food and bevs, as well as a bouncy room for kids (and/or young-at-heart adults like me…). How funny!
O’Meara Bros will always win my award for best destination for a date, especially considering their excellent menu, an assortment of beers and fine craft beers (I love the blonde…) and music local live. This week, on Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., they will present These Guys. By a show of hands, how many of you have seen these guys? Have you heard of these guys? Well, I’m here to tell you, these guys, uh… These guys are awesome! Chris Rovetti’s violin and Mike Canovas’ guitar will make you vibrate throughout your dinner…
If R&B, Blues, Soul and Funk are on your menu on Saturday night, the Riviera Hills Lounge at the Riviera says ‘look no further’ – Dr Groove takes care of everything for you outside on the terrace from 6am to 10:00 a.m. Whether you come for the glorious sunsets or the fine dining and full bar, but you definitely come for the music.
At Austin Park in Clearlake on Saturday night, The Time Travelers will commandeer the stage and rock you completely from 7:00 a.m. These guys, (not to be confused with “Those Guys”), are pretty much the busiest local band in the county. Go out and see why. I love these guys… There should be food trucks nearby with some of the best food trucks you can imagine eating, if not bring your own. Make it a picnic!
On Sunday at the Boathouse in this pretty little town of Nice, the band Beatz Werkin’ will play some of the best Classic Rock you’ll hear here at The LC from 3-7pm. One of my favorites in the county, and they should be yours too. Great new menu at BH, with a full bar – this is the perfect place to end your weekend.
The LC Diamonds will play at the Boatique Winery on Sunday from noon to 3:00 p.m.
Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake has a special treat on Sundays when the LC Diamonds rock the “cas”-bah from 5 to 9 a.m. The menu is great, the bar is full and the music is going to be like a party. Say no more…
I’ll leave the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake for last, mainly because they offer just about the best in meals, libations, and weekend entertainment – bar none! Fridays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., along with your meal and libations, you get the delicious torch ballads, blues classics, and show tunes of a bygone era from the Majide Trio. On Saturday evening, Steve Winkle will entertain you while you nibble on your excellent meal. For their Sunday brunch, music will be provided by the Back Porch Trio from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday night dinner will be special because my friend and cohort, Randy Hood, will be playing some of the best songs from our fondest memories from 6-8 p.m. The Monday Blues series continues with everyone’s favorite, The Hip Replacements from 6-8. For all these shows, reservations are strongly suggested…

McCarty’s Bar in Redwood Valley is happy to bring back, by popular demand, Severance. This classic rock and blues band is practically a staple of Mendo County live music. It should be a good time.
Ukiah Brewing will feature Boogie Woogie magic from Wendy DeWitt and Kirk Harwood starting at noon. Later in the evening, The Jazz Dudes will show you why these are tough times starting at 6:00.
For the Ukiah Sunday in the Park series, get ready for cumbia and Latin music from La Misa Negra starting at 6:00 a.m. Even if you don’t have a rubber body, you can still dance to this music. I think this will be my Sunday destination – hope to see you all there…
At Rivino’s Winery in Ukiah, an excellent band consisting of Paula Samonte, Paul McCandless, Ed Reinhart and Tre Enchante will play Fridays from 4:00 p.m. They are among the best in Lake/Mendo Jazz music. Check them out! Saturday night comedy Hot Summer Nights begins at 7:00 p.m., featuring Julio Gonzales, Max Eddy and Drea Myers. A good wine can enhance great laughs – yes, it does!
At the Thirsty Ax in Ukiah, put on your helmets and get ready to bang your head when Exmortus, Hatriot, Silver Talon and Goreskin Coffin RAWK the JOINT starting at 8:30am! Phew!
Hey, friends, this is surely one of the weekends you’ve been waiting for. Choose wisely and go to the event that suits you best. Remember, if you’re in Lake County, there are shows in Mendocino County that you might like better. Vice versa for you people of Mendo… Choose wisely, then groove – because everything is fine! So if and when you go out this week to support the live music scene, have fun – but be careful…
